At the neck.

Leave the top of the collar open so the contrasting inner edge remains visible. Keep the layer beneath simple; the neckline already gives the eye somewhere to rest.

At the waist.

A small tuck at the front draws attention to the trouser line. Letting the hem fall changes that proportion. Try both with the trousers you already wear.

At the sleeve.

Push the sleeve back slightly and let the cuff sit on its own. If you add a jacket, wear it open so the contrast at the neck still carries through.

Before the day begins.

One shoe on, one still waiting. Light moves across the floor and the room has a moment of stillness before the door closes. The pleasure is in having a little time to choose.

A pale knit and dark trousers make a simple starting point. Keep the neckline clear, let the trouser line run long and add the things that already feel like yours. The result can be put together without feeling overly arranged.

The long way home.

The afternoon leaves room for a detour. A path follows the water, a jacket rests over one arm, and the route matters a little less than the light.

For this way of dressing, think in layers and simple proportions: a knit, straight trousers, shoes made for your plans. Let one detail do the work of shaping the outfit, whether it is an open collar or a pale neckline against a darker layer.
